Hi, I’m Lisa… the creative nonfiction writer who was inspired to begin sharing myself with the world through the written word when I started this website in May 2014.

A Southern California native, I was born in Hollywood and raised in the suburbs of Los Angeles. I grew up in a unique environment of art, nature, music, celebrity, perceived perfection, and concealed dysfunction. After attending the University of California, Irvine and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, I returned to Los Angeles to begin working professionally in the Hollywood film and television industry. I moved to Malibu 8 years later and lived there for the next 18 years at a place along the Pacific Coast that often felt like the end of the Earth. It wasn’t, but it was far enough away from everything I previously thought defined me, and that drastically altered the course of my life.

I lost my mother to a fatal car accident in 2006, three months before I gave birth to my first child. This significant loss has had a profound effect on me… on how I love, on how I parent, and on what I write and share here.

Although I had always been a writer, sharing what I wrote was not something I had done before. It was scary and vulnerable and exhilarating. In starting on this new journey, I opened myself up to a whole new existence, and I was forever changed.

Several people have told me that I write how they feel but aren't able to “put into words”. There is no greater compliment to me than this. It is the inspiration for the name of this website, and it is the best part of this journey… having the opportunity to lend my voice to others and open their hearts to the truths within them and the world in which we all live. Sharing my voice, my struggles, and my inspirations. Owning my reality, being forthright about my mental and emotional health, and nurturing authentic human connections.
